Hamilton voted Goldsmiths Player of the Month

"I'm glad supporters think I'm pulling my weight," joked Scott Hamilton after being named the Goldsmiths Player of the Month for September.

Hamilton won the fans’ vote for the award, beating competition from fellow Kiwi Thomas Waldrom and fellow winger Alesana Tuilagi, after starting every game and scoring four tries during September.

New Zealand international Hamilton, last season’s Player of the Year, was presented with a Tag Heuer watch after Saturday’s Aviva Premiership game against Bath Rugby at Welford Road.

“It’s pretty good to be named player of the month,” said Hamilton. “It is good to be recognised and any award is nice. It’s always nice to be voted for by supporters.

“I am glad that the supporters think that I am pulling my weight.

“In terms of the big picture we are here to be playing in the right games come May – that is what we are after.”

Voting is already underway for the Goldsmiths Player of the Month for October with Matt Smith, Tom Croft and Ed Slater on the three-man shortlist.

Academy graduate Smith is Tigers’ joint top scorer so far this season with four in all competitions including scores in the Heineken Cup games against Benetton Treviso and Scarlets.

Croft has had an eye-catching October, both in the set-piece and in the loose, and scored two tries against the Scarlets in the Heineken Cup game at Welford Road.

And lock Slater, on-loan from Nottingham, has impressed with a series of hard-working displays. An ever-present in October he made his first Heineken Cup appearances in the wins over Benetton Treviso and the Scarlets.

The player of the month award is sponsored by Goldsmiths, the largest prestige and luxury jewellers in the UK, who are also official East Stand sponsors and official timekeepers.
