Today (Monday, August 3) marks the 135th birthday of the Leicester Tigers.Leicester Football Club, to give Tigers their official name, was formed on August 3 1880 at the George Hotel in Haymarket in the city through the amalgamation of Leicester Societies AFC, Leicester Amateur AFC and Leicester Alert.
The first committee was headed by William Alfred Wheeler as president, who also made 26 appearances for the club as a player, and the first captain was Alexander Brice, with 50 players on the club’s books.
