Market Harborough Rugby Club moved to the top of the leaderboard in this season's Ultimate Big Boot at Welford Road during Friday's European Champions Cup fixture between Leicester Tigers and Stade Francais. The Ultimate Big Boot, sponsored by De Montfort University, fires 10 balls high into the Welford Road sky as part of the half-time entertainment at the home of the Tigers, challenging teams to make as many successful catches as possible, with a jackpot prize starting at £2,000 for a full set of 10.
The Harborough team made six successful catches – from Billy Blair, Ed Bale, Harry Durham, Ed Sumpter, Sam Patterson and Andrew Jarvis – in front of a 20,000-strong crowd as Tigers kicked off the European season with an important victory over their French visitors.
Not only did that give them a 6-3 victory in their head-to-head contest with Leamington RFC on the evening, but it also put them on top of the season’s leaderboard alongside Barton Hockey Club who set the benchmark of six catches at the last Tigers home game, against Wasps earlier this month.
The Ultimate Big Boot is available to group bookings. Participants must be aged 14 or over. All participants receive a Big Boot T-shirt as a souvenir. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
