Hard-fought wins are most rewarding - Moody

Lewis Moody signed-off in style with a Guinness Premiership title win in his final appearance in a Leicester Tigers shirt.

“This club has been a huge part of my life, since I first came to support the team to being part of the squad and playing with some great teams and some great players here,” said the England international flanker.

“If I take something with me, it is the enjoyment I take out of the hard-fought games like today when both teams are playing rugby and it gives me great pride to play these games and know you have won it the hard way.

“True grit and determination wins us games, that has shone through over the years and that will never change.”

After picking up his seventh league title in Leicester Tigers colours, Moody said: “I have enjoyed my whole time at the club. I’m sure it will be emotional later once we’ve sat down and had a few beers with the boys!”

Moody was on the touchline when Scott Hamilton and Dan Hipkiss combined for the title-winning score in the dying moments of the game after being substituted with just 12 minutes remaining.

“I’m not a great watcher – you always want to be in there trying to influence things on the pitch – but the boys did a great job," he said. "It was a great take by Scott Hamilton, Dan Hipkiss took the high tackle and stayed on his feet to score.

“At that stage we didn’t have much time to get back into it – we needed to win the ball and we needed to score – so it was a great effort.

“Then right at the death Geoff Parling got that fantastic take on their lineout. Things like that win games.

“It’s a well-deserved win for every player in the squad this season.”
