Healthy Schools ‘champion’ enjoys day out

Leicester Tigers and Global Payments this year kicked off a new initiative encouraging primary school pupils to learn about the importance of healthy eating and exercise.

The club welcomed the programme’s first Healthy Schools Champion, Beatriz, to Welford Road to have a photo on the pitch at half-time.

Beatriz was one of the first school champions to be chosen following her schools week-long takeover as part of the Global Payments Heathy Schools.

Meeting club mascot Welford, Beatriz posed for a photo with Pete Bettles, director European products and schemes at Global Payments and Tigers player Mathew Tait.

Leicester Tigers health education officer Ashleigh Theobald also joined the team on the pitch and said: “It was great to welcome Beatriz to the game and reward her with a great day out. Healthy Schools is all about going into schools and engaging with pupils to get them thinking about what it is they are eating.

“Our healthy schools champions will act as ‘leaders’ for the programme and we’re looking forward to getting more of our champions involved throughout the year.”

To find out more information about the free programme or if you would like to book your school’s Healthy School week, please get in touch either by emailing [email protected] or contact Ashleigh on 07970 619444.
