Hipkiss pleased with Tigers progress

Dan Hipkiss says Leicester Tigers are ahead of where they were last season after their 20-20 Guinness Premiership draw with Bath Rugby.

Hipkiss returned from injury to score his first try of the season at the Recreation Ground on Saturday night. The score edged Tigers into a three-point lead before Nicky Little’s late penalty earned a draw for the home side.

Hipkiss admitted he was disappointed not to come away from Bath with the win but said the draw was an improvement on last season’s result, when Tigers went down to Butch James’s last-minute try.

“We were a little bit disappointed compared to where we could have been,” Hipkiss said. “I think had we scored the try to make it 20-20 we would have been delighted.

“It’s a little bit of déjà vu considering last year we scored a try to go ahead and they came back and we lost it, though it’s not as bad as that.

“I am always thinking where we were last year and we got one point down here against Bath so we are still ahead of where we were last year on all the results so far – we took a bonus point from Sale, which we didn’t last season, and we beat Harlequins compared with the draw their last season.”

Tigers return to action at Welford Road this Saturday when Worcester Warriors are the visitors before they begin their Heineken Cup campaign against Ospreys.

Tickets for all Tigers home games are available from the ticket office on 0844 856 1880 or online.
