It has been a challenging year but the Leicester Tigers Foundation is excited to announce the relaunch of the HITZ programme across Leicestershire.
HITZ is Premiership Rugby’s award-winning education and employability programme which works with more than 2,000 young people in the 14-18 age-group across England every year.
The programme uses rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship to get young people back in education employment or training.
In 2019, SCL Education and Training expanded its partnership with Premiership Rugby to become the exclusive education partner for the award-winning employability programme. SCL are a leading provider of education through sport with more than 15 years of experience in delivering a range of forward-thinking and successful education and sports development programmes for young people.
Participants in the HITZ programme regularly report an increase of resilience, self-confidence and aspiration as a result of their involvement and more than 70 per cent go on to achieve a positive progression into further education, employment or training.
The Tigers Foundation’s core offer of a 15-week traineeship starting on March 8 offers a relaxed environment targeted at 16-18-year-olds to improve their functional skills in maths and English, gain accredited qualifications alongside valuable work experience and develop life skills from work placements and employer-lead sessions.
Working towards qualifications and meaningful work experience, our students are given unique opportunities to develop themselves to a point where they are ready to gain employment or return to further education.
While continually improving their physical and mental health through sports, workshops and exercise, our students develop all of the skills, knowledge and experience they need to go on to the next steps in life.
