The Tigers Lotto is a great way for Tigers supporters to engage with the club whilst also having over 200 opportunities to win anything from ROARwards credits to cash prizes ranging from £100 to £1000. The lotto also gives assistance to the wider club, including vital support to the Tigers Women’s team.
This season, the Lotto has given Tigers players Katie Childs and Kat Turner a £1000 bursary to help towards their expenses whilst playing. Outside-centre Childs combines her time training and playing with studying at University and the money helps with leading a balanced life.
When asked the impact of the grant, Childs said “It’s amazing to be awarded this fund as it's so difficult being a student and trying to perform at a high standard. Prior to Christmas there wasn’t a week where I had a day off, from balancing university, rugby and working, which became ultimately exhausting. As much as I’ll never complain about doing something I love, the support from the Lotto eases the pressure and supports me to focus on the needed outlay without the dilemma of balancing university costs and the costs of rugby. It’s a good investment though, I'm going to push hard for a results-based return!”
Turner, meanwhile, faces an altogether different challenge. The No.8 works as a midwife so is already looking to balance an extremely busy working schedule; however, when you realise she also lives in Grimsby, the scale of her dedication to the team becomes fully apparent. The fund provided by Tigers Lotto helps players such as Kat ease the costs of doing what she loves.
When asked about the Lotto, Turner said “The lotto has massively helped my Tigers journey. Living in Grimsby, it’s a 170-mile round trip and as the cost of living and fuel at the minute it would have been impossible for me to travel to Leicester and have this amazing opportunity. It helps people like me who live in a small rugby area manage to make their dreams become reality and make themselves known to the wider rugby community.”
