Inside Sport on track with schools

Leicester Tigers and British Transport Police in the county have welcomed primary school pupils to Welford Road this month talking to them about the importance of railway safety.

Children from Charnwood Primary School, Holy Cross Primary and Parkland Primary enjoyed a day at the home of the Tigers as part of the Inside Sport initiative which focuses on providing fun, interactive and educational experience for youngsters.

Funded by Network Rail, PC Chris Potter joined Tigers education and engagement manager David McDonald to deliver sessions on how to be safe around railways and the dangers they pose.

Starting with a behind-the-scenes tour of Welford Road stadium, schools then took part in workshops before splitting into groups and working together to put what they have learnt into scenarios. The groups also got the opportunity to take part in practical rugby sessions to round off the day.

David McDonald said: “We’ve been working together with the British Transport Police since the start of 2018 to deliver this programme and it’s great to see the kids really engaged with railway safety.

Welford Road is an inspirational place and combining this with the expertise of Chris from British Transport Police, we’re able to get the children involved and thinking about railway safety and the dangers out there.”

Inside Sport welcomes groups from all communities to Welford Road with the ability to create programmes that focus on healthy lifestyle and fitness alongside education.
