Harry Ellis picked up two tries and a man-of-the-match award, as well as his 23rd senior cap, as six Leicester Tigers players saw action on the opening weekend of the RBS 6 Nations.

Club colleagues Julian White and Tom Croft both appeared as second-half replacements in England's 36-11 win over Italy, while Martin Castrogiovanni completed the 80 minutes in the Azzurri front row at Twickenham.

Geordan Murphy also got the campaign off to a winning start, earning his 60th cap for Ireland as a 76th-minute replacement in the 30-21 victory over France, for whom Benjamin Kayser appeared from the bench  just before the hour mark.

Ben Youngs, Will Hurrell and Greig Tonks kicked off the international season by playing a part in a 17-0 win for England Under-20s against Italy at Worcester on Friday evening.

Youngs and Hurrell were in the starting XV, while Tonks arrived from the bench after an hour as England got the defence of their Six Nations title off to a winning start.

Jordan Crane and Dan Cole were unable to add to their England Saxons experience as their game against Ireland A was called off on Friday evening.

Having had their original flight cancelled when snow forced the closure of Dublin airport on Thursday, the squad finally arrived more than 24 hours later and just six hours before kick-off. Despite conditions looking promising in mid-afternoon, the temperature plummeted and referee Jerome Garces Garces was left with no option but to call a halt just minutes from kick-off.

The fixture will not be rescheduled.
