Internationals check in again at Tigers

Steve Borthwick has welcomed six senior internationals back to the Leicester Tigers camp following the end of the autumn series.

England trio Ben Youngs, George Ford and Ellis Genge, plus Nemani Nadolo and Kini Murimurivalu (Fiji) and Georgia hooker Shalva Mamukashvili have reported back to Oval Park after missing the first three rounds of the Gallagher Premiership season to play in the Autumn Nations Cup,

Youngs, Ford and Genge were all involved as England lifted the trophy with an extra-time win over France on Saturday.

Mamukashvili was involved with Georgia throughout, but the Fijians had to wait until last weekend for a first opportunity to play after a Covid outbreak led to cancellation of their other fixtures. Murimurivalu started at full-back while wing Nadolo announced his return to Test rugby with a hat-trick of tries.

“Nemani, Kini and Shalva returned on Monday, and on Tuesday we had Ben, George and Ellis back with us,” Tigers head coach Borthwick said in the build-up to Friday’s home game against Brive in the European Challenge Cup.

“We’re in the process of assessments, checking everybody is fully healthy, and then we have a plan in place for them and their reintroduction to training here and their reintroduction to playing here, but at the same time understanding the right thing for the player and the need for some recovery and recharge.”
