Leicester Tigers non-executive director John Allen has joined the board of directors at Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

As a scrum-half, Allen played 457 games for Tigers and later served as treasurer and honorary secretary. He joined the board at Welford Road in 1997. A chartered accountant, he was a partner in the Leicester office of Grant Thornton up to his retirement.

He has strong connections with the Cricket Club, having been a member for more than 25 years and been part of the independent review board in 2003 which led to the formation of a new constitution and board.

Leicestershire CCC chairman Neil Davidson said: "As well as this being a valuable addition to our board of directors, it is also a unique development in that John will now serve in that capacity for both the Cricket Club and Leicester Tigers.

"His accountancy skills will be a major asset at a time when we are looking to move the club forward and develop new facilities at Grace Road, while he also offers the expertise of being involved in the operation of a sports club for 20 years. John knows this club extremely well and the challenges that we face."

Allen said: "The Leicester Tigers board have given their blessing to me taking up this vacancy on the cricket club's board of directors because it is not seen as a conflict of interests. My focus will be on financial matters and using the experience I have gained from being an administrator of a sports club for 20 years.

"The progress made at Tigers over the past three decades has been a great source of satisfaction for all concerned and I hope I can now help the Cricket Club achieve its objectives."
