Kayser delighted by French call-up

Benjamin Kayser says he feels honoured to end his first season at Leicester Tigers with his first call-up into the France squad.

The 23-year-old is among the uncapped players in a 26-man squad heading for two Tests in Australia.

“I am very excited,” said Kayser who made 30 appearances in his first season at Welford Road.

“It is a great honour to be selected by your country and one of my main goals when I came to Leicester last summer was to show that I could do well in another environment. I am happy the season I have had has helped me get into the France squad.

“Leicester Tigers are involved in the biggest games and France have shown they are prepared to choose players who are outside of the country.

“I have been on standby before but this will be my first senior tour and first chance to win a cap.”

Kayser will compete for the No2 jersey with Sale Sharks hooker Sebastien Bruno.

“I have had a week off but now I am back in training for a week before I meet up with the squad on June 18,” he said.

Kayser was also delighted to hear that clubmate Alex Moreno had been called up by Italy coach Nick Mallett ahead of Tests in South Africa and Argentina.

“I could not be happier for Alex, he is the kind of guy who deserves the call,” he said.

“I have never met a guy with a bigger heart in my life. Everyone knows how much he helped Castro when he first arrived at Tigers and he did the same for me.

“He picked me up for training on my first day in Leicester and he was a great help.

“I am really happy for him now that he is back in international rugby.”
