Graham Kitchener says he is "pleased to be in the mix" following his inclusion in the England squad for the upcoming Six Nations. The uncapped Kitchener links up with the national squad today as they begin preparations for the competition, which kicks off against Wales in Cardiff on February 6.
He is joined in the England squad by Tigers teammates Dan Cole, Geoff Parling, Ben Youngs and Tom Youngs.
Kitchener said: “To get the call up to the Six Nations squad was incredible. I‘m really pleased. It’s great to get the call and a massive boost for me.
“There are four good guys in there. Whatever happens, happens. I am pleased to be in the mix and will see where it goes from there.”
Kitchener says Tigers’ exit from the European Rugby Champions Cup at Ulster Rugby on Saturday was a big disappointment.
Tigers needed to become only the seventh team ever to win with a bonus point in Ulster but went out of the competition after a 26-7 defeat.
And Kitchener said the defeat to Scarlets earlier in the competition “ultimately cost us”.
“We said it before that the game at Scarlets was the most disappointing result,” he said. “We had a tough group but I think we were good enough to get out of it.
“That Scarlets game was a massive blow for us and I think ultimately that has cost us.”
