The Leicester Tigers Foundation has been launched to build on the work done by club within the community.Using the positive values rugby and support provided by the Leicester Tigers brand, the Foundation seeks to engage, enrich and enhance the lives and prospects of all those involved.
The Foundation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation which aims to develop a focused and dedicated operation to work with those in need of support across a numbers of areas.
Leicester Tigers Foundation core objectives:
Advancement of education
Promotion of good health
Advancement of amateur sport by promoting community participation in healthy recreation
Promotion of social inclusion
Working with supporters from the Tigers fan base along with commercial, charitable and public sector partners, the Foundation will look to deliver assistance to more than 50,000 people each year, delivering over one million hours of positive engagement time.
Initially the Leicester Tigers Foundation will be looking to secure £150,000 funding to enable a quality delivery team to begin to tackle some of the issues of childhood obesity and health inequalities in adulthood; disability in sport; and women and girls, and minority groups in sport.
Childhood obesity/Health inequalities in adulthood: A Healthy Schools programme will provide education and activity-led health and wellbeing resource within primary schools across Leicester and Leicestershire, encouraging young people to make sensible choices to lead a healthier lifestyle. In partnership with ‘Healthy Schools’, a community-based ‘Fit Fans’ programme will challenge adults to become more active while educating them in making the correct choices nutritionally.
Disability in Sport: The Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Programme aims to provide inspiration, opportunity and access for all to participate in sport. Using the positive role models within the Tigers and the Wheelchair Rugby Team, the Foundation will look to develop a sustainable community-based delivery programme and lead in the development of a integrated facility and centre of excellence for all to enjoy sporting opportunities.
Women & Girls, Minority Groups in Sport: The Foundation will look to provide a sustainable resource to deliver a regular programme to introduce the game to women and girls along with minority groups. Working with the community game, Foundation coaches will also look to provide exit routes and continued support to encouraging all to take up the sport and find engagement in a format that best suits their present levels whether playing, coaching, volunteering, administering or just supporting the game.
