Leicester Tigers are taking the final home match of the Aviva 'A' League season on the road to Lichfield Rugby Club in Staffordshire and are planning to make this a big family day for rugby fans of all ages.

The Tigers Development XV will face Worcester Cavaliers at Lichfield’s Cooke Fields home on Sunday, April 9. Kick-off is at 3pm.

The Tigers Maul and photo booth, with activities including the Speed Pass Challenge and other games will be in attendance in the build-up to the game and Lichfield are hosting a tag tournament for under-7s and under-8s, and age-grade games for young players. If your team would like to take part, please contact Lichfield RUFC for more details.

Admission to this Aviva ‘A’ League fixture is free to all supporters.

Chris Rose, head of brand at Leicester Tigers, said: “Staffordshire is a very strong area in terms of support for the Tigers and a home county for our Academy and Developing Player Programme.

“We work with many great clubs in the county at Lichfield, Tamworth, Stoke, Burton, Burntwood, Barton-under-Needwood, Leek and Newcastle who take part in our activities at Welford Road and moving an ‘A’ League game to the area was the next natural step in showing our support and building on our great relationships.

“The facilities at Lichfield Rugby Club are fantastic and we hope many supporters will join us for a big family day out.”

Tigers hosted an 'A' League fixture at Leicester Grammar School last season and took a game in the competition to Newark RFC back in 2004 but this is the first time the club has taken a game at this level into Staffordshire.

Iain Eadie, deputy chairman of Lichfield, said: “Having Leicester Tigers at Lichfield each year for our summer camp is fantastic because it gives minis and juniors from clubs all over Staffordshire the chance to have fun, make new friends and get a week of great rugby coaching.

“We asked Tigers what else we could do to strengthen our relationship and we are delighted they have agreed to come and play their ‘A’ League game against Worcester at Cooke Fields.

“We hope as many boys and girls, mums and dads, and everyone else can come along on April 9 and enjoy a fantastic afternoon of rugby. We really hope it will inspire young and old to get involved with rugby, regardless of whether that is at Lichfield or any other club.”

After Aviva ‘A’ League wins over Wasps, Newcastle and Sale, Tigers suffered a first defeat of the season away to Northampton Wanderers at Christmas, but are looking for a strong finish to the campaign.

The Tigers Development XV sits in second place in the Northern Conference of the ‘A’ league competition, based on a squad which features a mix of experienced players gaining valuable gametime and young prospects from the academy making progress in senior rugby.

First-team players Fraser Balmain, Will Evans, Michele Rizzo, Jack Roberts and Harry Thacker have all lined up in ‘A’ League rugby this season alongside up-and-coming scrum-halves Ben White and Harry Simmons, forwards Joe Maksymiw and Sam Lewis, and backs Sam Yawayawa and Tom Hardwick. George Worth, who has established himself in senior rugby at Tigers and on loan in the Championship with Nottingham in 2016/17, is the team’s top scorer with 24 points after four rounds.
