Long-time fan gifted birthday surprise

For more than 25 years Christine Mason has cheered on her beloved Leicester Tigers as a season ticket holder at Welford Road.

However, her contribution to the team extends much further for many years as a member of the volunteer catering team (pictured below in 1993) at the club’s training ground as she helped to fuel the players for training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

This week, Chris turned 75 and, to celebrate, she was a welcome guest back at Oval Park to meet her favourite member of the current squad, Sam Harrison.

The pair discussed the season so far, the changes that have taken place at the training and playing venues over the years and what she had planned for her milestone birthday celebrations.

Scrum-half Harrison, who Chris was admitted she was “nervous” to meet, even signed a birthday card for her and posed for photo to make her friends in the Holland Barrett Stand jealous ahead of Saturday’s Champions Cup fixture against Castres.

Among the many in the group is Angela Murphy, another former catering team member, who is also in her third decade of cheering on the team from the stands.
