Leicester Tigers were honoured guests of the Lord Mayor of Leicester on Tuesday evening at a reception called in recognition of last season's Double winners.

Councillor Gary Hunt, Lord Mayor, welcomed acting head coach Richard Cockerill, the senior playing squad and club officials to Leicester Town Hall to honour the Guinness Premiership and EDF Energy Cup winners of 2006/07.

After an official welcome from the Lord Mayor, Tigers director Roy Jackson, club president during the Double-winning season, replied on behalf of the club.

He said: "A most successful season would not have been possible without the magnificent efforts of the coaching staff and the players. Now this season marks the start of a new era for the club. Marcelo Loffreda will arrive as head coach after the Rugby World Cup and, off the field, we are embarking on a major ground development programme.

"The first stage of this redevelopment is scheduled to start at the end of this season. We appreciate the City Council's support of our plans for the future and look forward to working with your officers and members to provide a Welford Road stadium that the city can be proud of.

"Wherever you go in the world, the name Leicester Tigers will be recognised and in the years ahead we will continue to be ambassadors for the city."

Councillor Hunt said: "This evening was about recognising the achievements of all the club, from the backroom staff and management to the players."
