Leicester Tigers prop Campese Ma’afu has been named in Fiji’s wider training group ahead of the upcoming Pacific Test Series.
The series, which incorporates a pair of matches against the Maori All Blacks as well as the Pacific Nations Cup, takes place prior to Fiji head coach John McKee selecting his squad for the World Cup in Japan later this year.
Ma’afu, who has 56 international caps to date, is one of 38 players named in the group ahead of a first fixture against the Maori All Blacks on Saturday, July 13.
A reverse fixture (July 20), as well as matches against Japan (July 27), Canada (August 3) and Samoa (August 10) will follow.
The 34-year-old loosehead prop departs the club this summer after 10 first-team appearances in his season at Welford Road. Former Tigers wing Vereniki Goneva is also included in the wider group.
Mckee said: “It is very pleasing for me to see so many players getting games at their various European clubs.
“Their seasons are now closing down so we hope to see them back into Fiji from next week.
“Now is the time, with all planning in place, I am really looking forward to getting into camp with the players from July 1.
“We know we have a lot of work to do between our assembly and traveling to Japan for our first game against Australia in the Rugby World Cup.”
