Macmillan thank Tigers Family for support

Macmillan Cancer Support, one of Leicester Tigers' official charities for the 2014/15 season, has thanked the Tigers Family for their support already.

The three official club charities – Macmillan Cancer Support, Joe Humphries Memorial Trust and the Matt Hampson Foundation – were introduced on the opening day of the new Aviva Premiership campaign.

Macmillan Cancer Support had a presence at Tigers in the Park, the free community event that has become a Tigers’ tradition at the first home game of the season.

More than 1,600 people received information from the charity’s mobile team and many more used the services of Macmillan's information bus. And the charity also raised more than £3,000 through collections.

Jo-Anne Wilson, Macmillan fundraising manager Leicestershire and Rutland, said: “The day was a fantastic success with lots of laughs, cakes and, more importantly, people reached with vital information and support.

“Thank you so much for your continued support. Tigers Family supporting our families. Together we are all Macmillan Cancer Support.”

Fans can support the charity again this Friday when Tigers are part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning from 9.30am to 3pm.

Supporters can watch the Tigers Team Run as the squad go through their final preparations on the eve of the home Aviva Premiership game with London Irish and at the same time help a great cause.

The Team Run is from 10.30am to 11.30am and, afterwards, members of the playing squad will join fans in the Final Whistle for coffee and cake.

Some of the cakes will baked and donated by Fiona Cairns, who made the cake for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Fiona said: “Macmillan does the most extraordinary work, and we are always delighted to support it in any way we can to raise awareness and much needed funds. For us this is  usually by  baking a few batches of cakes!”

Fans who cannot make the Team Run or are at work during the day are encouraged to join us at lunchtime as Tigers aim to make it the biggest Macmillan coffee morning in Leicestershire.

Entry is priced at £5, which includes a slice of cake and a hot drink. The ticket price will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. Click here to book your ticket, call the Tigers ticket office on 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or pay on the day.

Fans unable to attend the coffee morning can show their support by donating to Macmillan Cancer Support's #Tigersfamily Just Giving Page by clicking here.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's biggest fundraising event. The charity asks people across the UK - and sometimes further afield - to hold a coffee morning, where donations are made to Macmillan. Click here for more information on the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.
