Leicester Tigers centre Manu Tuilagi has withdrawn through injury from the England squad to tour Australia.
After suffering a hamstring injury in the Aviva Premiership semi-final against Saracens on Saturday, Tuilagi had a scan on Monday and a review by the England medical team and it was advised that he would be unavailable for the three-Test tour in June.
“It’s bad luck for Manu so close to the tour, but it provides a great opportunity for someone else,” said England head coach Eddie Jones. “We wish Manu all the best and a quick recovery.”
A replacement for Tuilagi will be announced following the Old Mutual Wealth Cup game against Wales on Sunday.
Club colleagues Dan Cole, Ben Youngs and the uncapped Ellis Genge are included in the England squad for the summer fixtures.
