Maori always bring something x-tra says Boris

Boris Stankovich says the Maori All Blacks will bring an 'X-Factor' to Welford Road in this evening's historic fixture against Leicester Tigers.

New Zealand-born prop Stankovich was one of the cornerstones of the Tigers team that beat world champions South Africa in 2009 and is looking forward to another big night at Welford Road.

“You know the style of a Maori player, they are very powerful and bring a no-nonsense approach to the game, and you know you’re going to be in for a tough day,” says Stankovich.

“And they also have an X-factor in their game and some of the most exciting players in the world have come from Maori heritage.

“Playing for the Maori side is a massive honour. Rugby is a big thing in the Maori culture, there have been so many successful Maori players right at the top of New Zealand rugby and among the best players in the world.”

Recalling the atmosphere at Welford Road during that win over South Africa, front-rower Stankovich is looking forward to another big night of international competition.

“For Leicester Tigers to play against the Maori All Blacks is an historic occasion and it’s not one that is likely to be repeated for a very long time,” he says.

Tickets for the match are still available. Prices from £20 adults, £5 juniors. Phone the Tigers ticket office on 0844 856 1880, call in at Welford Road on buy online. The office will be open all day and right up to kick-off at 7.30pm.
