This Saturday, Leicester Tigers Women’s team look to close out an unbeaten, debut league campaign in style when they play Barnsley Ladies for the first time this season.
It’s twice been a tale of misfortune befalling this fixture, as both the initial home and away match were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
As a result of these cancellations, the ramifications of both fixtures will now be condensed into this singular game, meaning there are double points on offer this weekend.
What is also at stake is the Championship North 1 title, with not only pride on offer but also a favourable draw in the coming play-offs with Championship South 1.
Cheltenham Tigers ladies are just four points behind at present and chasing a second successive leauge title after going through undefeated last season. Consequently, if Leicester Tigers were to lose without claiming a bonus point, the title would be in jeopardy.
Looking ahead, no matter the results of this weekend, both Leicester Tigers and Cheltenham Tigers have secured their spots in the top two, meaning both will qualify for the upcoming play-off series with the top two places in Championship South 1.
Bath Ladies wrapped up the title last week and will play second place in Championship North 1, while second place will be decided over the next two weeks, with just a singular point separating Old Albanians Ladies and Thurrock Ladies - who presently occupy the second and third places respectively.
The two sides play each other on the final matchday in two weeks’ time.
The play-off series will take place in April, with the semi-finals taking place on the weekend of April 15/16 before the Championship final on the weekend of April 29/30.
Keep an eye on LeicesterTigers.com and our social channels for an announcement of the confirmed dates, times and venues for those upcoming matches.
For now, however, the team’s focus remains steadfastly on the next job, Barnsley Ladies, and keeping a firm grip on an exceptional unbeaten streak.
