Matt O'Connor is predicting some massive European encounters next season after seeing Leicester Tigers drawn in the same pool as Munster, Racing 92 and Castres Olympique in the Champions Cup.
Head coach O’Connor reached the 2009 Final in his first spell with Tigers before moving to three-time winners Leinster and says the Champions Cup is one of the great attractions of European rugby.
“The Champions Cup is a massive competition and we’ll look forward to some massive games in it again next season,” said O’Connor.
“Coaches, players and officials all want to be at the very top of the game and that is what the Champions Cup is all about.
“Tigers have a very proud history in the European Cup and we all appreciate how much the competition means here.”
Tigers have been drawn in Pool 4 for the club’s 21st season in Europe’s elite tournament, and will meet Munster and Racing in the pool stages for a second successive season. Castres, who were French champions in 2013 and runners-up in 2014, have never met Tigers in a competitive fixture.
“Munster and Racing are among the biggest names in Europe, and Castres were French champions just a few seasons ago, so you have to expect another tough pool,” said O’Connor.
“The pool standings are always very tight which means consistency is important and that is what we have to aim for in the new season.”
Fixture order, dates and times will be confirmed by tournament organisers EPCR following consultation with their broadcast partners. Match ticket details will be confirmed by Tigers once the fixture details have been announced.
Home fixtures in the pool stages of the European Champions Cup are included in Tigers season tickets.
