Mauger excited by Classic challenge

Tigers centre Aaron Mauger says he is expecting a "hard but entertaining" game when the Classic All Blacks line up at Welford Road on Sunday, May 25 (kick-off 3pm).

Mauger, who collected 45 Test caps for New Zealand before moving to Tigers this season, will meet some old friends when the Classic All Blacks make their first-ever visit to the UK next month.

“There are lots of guys in that squad that I know really well, guys like Justin Marshall and Andrew Mehrtens. We played together for eight or nine years when I was at Canterbury,” Mauger said.

“All the guys in the Classic All Blacks squad are good guys and they will be looking forward to coming here for the game.

“A lot of those players have been together at the highest level with New Zealand, they have come through together and now this game gives them a chance to link up again and show their skills as well. I’m sure it will be a competitive and entertaining match.

“Look at guys like Justin Marshall and Andrew Mehrtens, they like to throw the ball around and will play a wide game wherever possible. I think we will have to deny them the ball and get them chasing us!”
