Meet the charity | Leics & Rutland Blood Bikes

Leicester Tigers will welcome one of its official club charity partners, the Leicestershire & Rutland Blood Bikes, to Welford Road when Tigers take on Wasps in the Gallagher Premiership this Saturday, February 15 (3.00pm).

The Blood Bikes offer a free courier service for hospitals in our two counties, transporting blood and blood products, pathology samples and other medical essentials.

The team’s work helps the local NHS to reduce transport costs, enabling more money to be directed to frontline patient services and care. They support the main hospitals and also link up with NHS test centres at Addenbrookes in Cambridge and the Blood Bank in Sheffield.

Blood Bikes provide the local Air Ambulance with blood products daily, support NHS maternity teams with document movements and the Women’s Hospital in Birmingham with movement of donated breast milk in support of prematurely-born babies.

Leicestershire & Rutland Blood Bikes is run completely by volunteers, many of whom are motorcycle riders. All riders hold advanced rider qualifications and the whole team strives for a high professional standard at all times. Services are run around the clock, including weekends and public holidays.

In order to fund running costs, they rely solely on public donations. Fundraising is therefore a vital part of our work to be able to continue our service.

Volunteers will have bucket collections based around the stadium, as well as their own stand and one of the Blood Bikes motorcycles to showcase.
