A message to supporters from Leicester Tigers chairman Peter Tom CBE

At Leicester Tigers, we appreciate that this is a frustrating time for everyone as the Coronavirus lockdown enters its third month, but we hope that you and your family and friends remain safe and healthy.

This situation is obviously much bigger than ‘just’ sport, though there has been no rugby at Welford Road since the end of February and the players have not been together since the scheduled trip to Exeter Chiefs was postponed in mid-March.

Work has, though, continued at the club and among our Gallagher Premiership colleagues to address the challenges in a situation which is constantly changing and which prompts more questions than answers in terms of coming out of the other side.

Any talk of how and when the season re-starts remains purely speculative. At this point, there is no definitive update on when players can start to train together again or when the Gallagher Premiership season can resume and there is work to be done before a decision is reached.

Government guidelines on a way forward for professional sport have been released and we are currently assessing all of the detail and the implications.

At Tigers, we will not put our people in harm’s way. The welfare of players, staff and supporters remains paramount and a return to training and playing can only happen when it is safe to do so.

In the meantime, thank you for your support, your patience and your understanding while we all work together to come through this with as much positivity as possible for the future.

We look forward to seeing you back at Welford Road in due course while continuing to give full support to the lockdown measures and encouraging everyone to protect the NHS and save lives.
