The Leicester Tigers ticket office sold more than 1,000 tickets to the Heineken Cup quarter-final against Toulon on the first morning of sale.

Tigers fans began queuing at Welford Road at 5.30am on Thursday morning, braving freezing temperatures to secure their tickets to the game at the Stade Felix Mayol on Sunday, April 7..

Around 100 people were in the queue when tickets went on sale to season ticket holders and members at 8.30am. Others secured their seats online and on the ticket office hotline 0844 856 1880 (option 2).

Paul Dukes, a season ticket holder in the Caterpillar Stand, was first in the queue. He said: “We’re flying from Heathrow to Marseille and will take a train from Marseille to Toulon.

“We have the hotel and flights sorted so wanted to be here early to make sure we got good seats.”

Josh Francis is a season ticket holder in the Holland & Barrett Stand. Originally from Queensland, Australia, he is on a working holiday and living in Leicester for a year.

“One thing I knew about Leicester was that they had a good rugby team,” he said. “I’ve been here since July, have followed the Heineken Cup through and this is a good excuse to see some rugby in the sun in the south of France.

“As an Aussie, I’ll certainly be going over to wish Jonny Wilkinson well! For a change!”

Guy Cummins is also a season ticket holder in the Holland & Barrett Stand and works with Josh at the University of Leicester.

“We made the arrangements for flights and accommodation and didn’t want to miss out on tickets,” he said. “We didn’t want to be sat outside the stadium listening to everyone inside the stadium, so we came down early to get them in our hands.”

Tigers have requested their full allocation of tickets – 25 per cent of the capacity of the 15,000-seat Stade Felix Mayol. Around one third of those tickets have now been sold.

Sales are limited to two tickets per current season ticket holder or member, subject to availability. A member is a supporter who has purchased a £30 membership for the 2012/13 season. Membership for this season is still available.

Tickets will be allocated as best available within each price category and are subject to availability.

Please note that there are no concession or junior tickets available for this game.

Kick-off is at 5.30pm local time / 4.30pm UK time.
