Munster made it tough for us, says O'Connor

Head coach Matt O’Connor says Munster made his team pay for their inaccuracy in Saturday’s European Champions Cup match at Thomond Park.

The hosts took over in top spot in Pool 4 with a 33-10 victory in the third round of the tournament, claiming a bonus point with four tries as Tigers headed home empty-handed from Ireland.

“You cannot come here and be inaccurate,” said O’Connor. “We turned over ball far too much.

“We have to better and we have to be accurate. They are ferocious over the ball, their line-speed was good. The breakdown was probably where we were a poor second and they took their chances in the first half.

“We came back a bit in the second half but didn’t get any continuity.”

Munster led 20-0 before half-time and 28-3 by the hour mark before a try from Harry Thacker provided a breakthrough for Tigers who ended the game with multiple phases of possession near the hosts’ tryline.

The teams meet again on Sunday in the return at Welford Road. Kick off is at 5.30pm and tickets are on sale now.

Looking forward to the rematch, O’Connor said: “We need to be significantly better next week. We will have to make sure we are very, very good and don’t give Munster anything.”
