Leicester Tigers have announced a summer residential camp as part of their renowned Rugby Course programme.

Guinness Premiership champions Tigers will run a week-long course at Bishop Burton College, near Beverley in East Yorkshire, for the week of August 2-6.

A £2.9million Centre for Sport & Fitness is the focal point of the college's new Sports Village which includes a state-of-the-art fitness suite, 4G artificial turf pitch and outdoor grass pitches and sports hall.

The Tigers camp is open to players aged from under-13 to under-17 with good ability and it is already attracting a lot of interest.

Matt Williams, Leicester Tigers senior rugby development officer & EPDG Academy coach, said: "The residential course will give players an insight into what it is like to be part of a professional Academy.

"This course is aimed at players who have the desire to reach a high level of rugby. Players will be pushed to the limit by Tigers coaches and challenged at every opportunity to maximise their potential.

"Specialist sessions will focus on strength and conditioning and athleticism, as well as rugby specific training.

“The benefit of a residential camp allows us to work on team-building and leadership, which are key to success for any rugby team.”

As well as the excellent rugby facilities, Bishop Burton College will cater for and house all the players and coaches for the week. Travel from Welford Road will also be available.

The Tigers coaching team also have a full programme of non-residential courses planned for the summer supported by energy efficiency specialists Mark Group and kicking off at Ratcliffe College on July 19.

These popular courses are aimed at players involved in contact rugby from under-nines through to under-16s. Everyone who attends will receive a free ticket to a first-team game at Welford Road, as well as a Tigers Rugby Course T-shirt, rugby ball and drinks bottle, plus a hot, healthy lunch each day, and a personal assessment and feedback form.

Mark Group commercial director Bill Rumble, said: "Rugby is a sport which can engage the whole family. By supporting the community programme, we are encouraging more and more children to get active and get excited about the game."
