Newcastle name side for Tigers clash

Figure image
England internationals Jonny Wilkinson, Matthew Tait and Andy Long and All Black prop Carl Hayman have been named in the Newcastle Falcons side to face Tigers at Kingston Park on Sunday afternoon.

Wilkinson starts alongside James Grindall, with Tait occupying the full back berth and Long and Hayman packing down in the front row with Jon Golding.

Phil Dowson captains the side from the back row where he is joined by fellow England Saxons international Ben Woods, but England World Cup squad members Jamie Noon and Toby Flood both miss out with ankle injuries.

On the bench there could be a first Kingston Park appearance for back row Ross Beattie in his second spell at the club, while scrum half Hall Charlton returns to the 22 after recovering from a stomach injury.

In the first of two Guinness Premiership home games in the space of four days, acting director of rugby Steve Bates has made six changes from the side which faced Worcester Warriors in the European Challenge Cup last Friday.
