Rutland side Oakham scored a try in each half to emerge 2-0 winners and lift the trophy for the first time. But they were pushed all the way by Coventry outfit Old Coventrians in an excellent final.
“The final was a great advert for the Prima Tiger Cup,” Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said. “It was an excellent game between two very good sides, who were a credit to their clubs.
“The atmosphere inside Welford Road was brilliant and really added to the occasion. Congratulations to Oakham on their victory and to Old Coventrians for their part in a hard-fought final."
The Prima Tiger Cup is in its 17th year and is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions. More than 50 teams from across the Tigers region entered this season’s competitions.
The final was played before Leicester took on Saracens in the Aviva Premiership on Saturday at Welford Road. Hundreds of supporters made the trip from Oakham and Coventry to watch while Tigers fans, players and coaches also watched the game.
James Cooper, Oakham Under-10s head coach, said: “Oakham have not won the Prima Tiger Cup before, which is why it means so much. We have won County Cups but we have never won the Prima – this is the ultimate.
“It’s been a great competition and for our under-10s boys to play three times at Welford Road is fantastic.”
Old Coventrians Under-10s head coach Alan Warwood said: “We are very proud of the players. They have done very well to get here. They were two very good teams in the final and it was an excellent game.”
Tigers are already encouraging teams who want to take part in next season's competition to register their interest. Contact the Tigers community team on 0844 856 1880 or visit the community section of the Tigers website by clicking here
