Plus-points boost Tigers squad

Richard Cockerill says there are a number of positives to take out of Saturday's LV= Cup tie with Newport Gwent Dragons, starting with the victory.

Tigers scored three tries but conceded three as they came through with a 29-20 victory to get off the mark in this season’s new-look Anglo-Welsh tournament after defeat at Leeds Carnegie in round one.

“Toby Flood came back from injury, Craig Newby and Matt Smith got back in and got same game-time, we were able to get the rustiness out of a few of the guys who didn’t play last week, and we didn’t pick up any new injuries,” said head coach Cockerill.

“And we’ll take the win.

“We started all right and we had dominance in the forward pack, but we got a bit sloppy at times. We pride ourselves on being harder to play against than that. We executed poorly at times and gave them some pretty easy points.”

Cockerill’s squad are now preparing for a return to Guinness Premiership action with a trip to Gloucester on Friday before the next home game, against Leeds Carnegie on Saturday, November 28 (kick-off 3pm). Tickets are on sale now from the Tigers ticket office. Call 0844 856 1880, book online or visit Welford Road.
