Hanro Liebenberg is excited ahead of a return to Gallagher Premiership action, away to Exeter Chiefs, this weekend.

The Leicester Tigers club captain spoke to the Press from the club’s Oval Park training ground on Monday afternoon.

See what the skipper had to say below.

Looking back on the club’s pre-season programme, which included back-to-back fixtures before a weekend without any match, Liebenberg said: “We had two pretty tough pre-season games in Jersey away and Newcastle at home.”

“For me, last week was good to have a week dedicated to training with the ability to continue the work we have put in over the summer together.”

“There are a lot of new faces at the club and we are still working hard to get the cohesion right in the group, which the pre-season week without the game was good.”

“Additionally, from a physical aspect it gave us the weekend off to be able to hit the ground running today.”

Asked about the atmosphere at Oval Park and any differences now that the league season had arrived, he said: “I don’t think we have spoken about Exeter until today, the focus has been all on ourselves and what we are trying to improve.”

“Today, Monday of the first game and we preview an opposition for the first time since getting back together really makes you feel like it’s game week again.”

“Pre-season is over and we are back in the Premiership swing of things, which is really exciting.”

Previewing the Round 1 trip to Sandy Park, Liebenberg said: “Exeter are always a physical side and especially pride themselves on playing their way at their home ground.”

“We know they will come out firing in front of their own supporters to start the season.”

“It is always a big challenge at Sandy Park, it’s one of the toughest trips in the competition and this weekend will be no different.”
