Welford Road welcomes French league champions Racing 92 on Sunday in the second round of fixtures in this season's European Champions Cup.

Leicester Tigers and Racing met in the semi-final stage last season, with the French side taking the honours at The City Ground, Nottingham.

After topping a pool including Munster, Stade Francais and Treviso in 2015/16, Tigers beat Stade for a second time in the quarter-finals to set up a semi-final against their Paris rivals Racing. But the European campaign ended with a 19-16 defeat. Click here for all the match details from the semi-final.

Racing go into Sunday’s game in eighth place in the Top 14 table after beginning their defence of the title with four wins and four defeats in the opening two months of the season. Their first scheduled match in the Champions Cup was postponed last weekend when Munster head coach Anthony Foley died just hours before the teams were due to meet in Paris.

Tigers sit fourth in the Aviva Premiership table but lost the opening game in Europe away to Glasgow last weekend.

The two clubs first met almost 100 year ago, with Tigers winning games at Welford Road in 1922 and 1923 but losing on two visits to Paris before the rematch in Nottingham last April.

Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill said: “We’ve been a bit inconsistent but we have a very good squad of players and we’re working hard to come through it.

“In any game there are parts that go against you and it’s all about how you recover from that. We didn’t do that well enough against Glasgow. We have to be tougher to play against and we have to make the most of opportunities in attack.

“We had a decent run in Europe last season and we want to go as far as we can again.”

Team news was announced on Friday lunchtime with Tigers confirming a home debut for Matt Toomua and the return of Marcos Ayerza and JP Pietersen to the starting line-up. Racing 92 include Dan Carter and Maxime Machenaud at half-back. Click here for all the team news from both camps.

Referee on Sunday is Italian official Marius Mitrea.
