Rabeni and Hougaard back to face Blues

Seru Rabeni will make his first start of the season for Leicester Tigers in Saturday’s EDF Energy Cup tie against Cardiff Blues at the Arms Park.

The Fijian, who returned from suspension to appear as a second-half replacement in last weekend’s nine-try win over Benetton Treviso in the Heineken Cup, is named on the wing by Tigers head coach Heyneke Meyer.

Johne Murphy, who scored a hat-trick of tries in Italy last Saturday, moves to full-back, while Derick Hougaard returns at fly-half after scoring 14 points in his debut for Tigers in the win at Bath in the previous EDF Energy Cup tie. Toby Flood moves to inside centre.

George Chuter and Boris Stankovich return to the front row in place of Benjamin Kayser and Marcos Ayerza, while Richard Blaze is named in the second row as Ben Kay moves to the replacements’ bench.

“We made a good start to the competition with the away win against Bath,” said Meyer.  “Now we have another tough game.

“Cardiff are playing good rugby, they played superbly against Gloucester in the Heineken Cup last week and they will be difficult to beat.”

Tigers’ third fixture in Pool 2 is against Sale Sharks at Welford Road on Friday, October 31 (kick-off 7.35pm). Tickets are on sale now from the Tigers ticket office.
