Roberts praises squad effort in reaching semis

Jack Roberts says Tigers got the job done with the victory at Worcester Warriors that booked their passage into the Aviva Premiership semi-finals.

The hard-fought 28-23 win guaranteed Tigers fourth position in the Aviva Premiership and a place in the play-offs for a 13th successive season.

Roberts, who started at centre at Sixways, said: “We did what was needed. I think, as a team, we controlled it well with Freddie Burns and Ben Youngs at half-back. We played in the areas and took the points when they were on offer.

“It was perhaps not our best performance of the year but we managed the game really well and did enough to get the win, which is the most important thing. Now we can look forward to the semi-final.”

Roberts said that Tigers can go into the semi-final against Wasps in Coventry with confidence after a third successive win in the league.

He said: “I think it’s shown the mentality in the squad that we’ve been able to come back and still be in a semi-final.

“We’re confident in our own ability. We know on our day, when we turn up and play the way we want to, that we can beat anyone.”
