Rugby fans give Alix plenty of encouragement

The rugby community is coming together to help Alix Wood as she bids to complete a 230-mile charity walk from Cornwall to Welford Road.

Alix and her husband Kevin, who is supporting her trek, stopped off at the Recreation Ground on Saturday where they were given a “fantastic” reception by the supporters of Bath Rugby and London Wasps.

Fans of both clubs made donations to the Matt Hampson Trust while Bath prop David Barnes gave Alix words of encouragement as she bids to reach Welford Road in time for Saturday’s Guinness Premiership game against Newcastle Falcons.

Kevin said: “Saturday was brilliant. Rugby fans are great wherever and lots of people knew we were coming.

“Lots of people found us and gave us money and had a chat. David Barnes came to see us and said we were doing a great job.”

Alix set off on her walk in aid of the Matt Hampson Trust from Launceston RFC on Sunday, September 6 and aims to arrive at Welford Road in time for the first home game of the season against Newcastle Falcons this Saturday.
