RWC: Marcelo up against France - again

Marcelo Loffreda's Argentina will lock horns with France for the second time in this Rugby World Cup in the third-place play-off on Friday evening.

The Pumas set the ball rolling on a fabulous World Cup with a 17-12 win over the hosts in Paris in the opening game of the tournament and will be hoping for a repeat.

Loffreda, who takes over as Leicester Tigers head coach after the World Cup, saw his side fall at the semi-final hurdle, beaten 37-13 by South Africa on Sunday.

South Africa now prepare to meet England in the final on Saturday, while Argentina go into the play-off game boosted by a fine record of four wins in their last five matches against France.

Argentina are now fourth in the world rankings despite still being an amateur sport in their home country and, following defeat in their first-ever Rugby World Cup semi-final, Loffreda said he was proud of his team's performance, particularly as they do not have regular top-class tournament to play in and prepare in between World Cups.

"Other teams are accustomed to playing more often," he said. "We were beaten by a great team. They were better than us. South Africa are a very dangerous team and when they had any spaces, when we made mistakes, they would take opportunities and score a try."
