Marcelo Loffreda will take Tigers to the final in his first season as head coach after Saturday’s 34-24 semi-final win over London Wasps, while the Ospreys beat Saracens 30-3 at the Millennium Stadium.
“It was a really good win for us,” said Loffreda after tries from Seru Rabeni, Dan Hipkiss, Martin Castrogiovanni and Andy Goode, who also claimed the EDF Energy man-of-the-match award.
“We owed ourselves a good performance. The forward pack did well and we played some very good rugby in stages along the backline too.
“We are very happy with this win and with this performance, but we know we have to still go forward and improve our game.”
Loffreda said he was most pleased by the team’s improvement on their winning display against Saracens in the Guinness Premiership just a week earlier.
“The players were very focused and I congratulate all the squad,” he said. “Last week we did not keep possession well. We did many good things for five or six phases then the last pass was lost or dropped. But this time the team improved a lot and for me that is good, I am happy. Everybody wants to win, but you first have to play very well and as a consequence of that you can win.”
Tigers and Wasps go head to head again on Saturday, this time in the Guinness Premiership encounter at Welford Road. That match is already a sell-out, but the Leicester Tigers viagogo ticket exchange is active. Log on to http://tigers.viagogo.co.uk for details.
