Six Leicester Tigers players will go to the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand as members of the England squad.

Team manager Martin Johnson announced the 30-man squad this evening, featuring 17 forwards and 13 backs.

The Tigers players are Dan Cole, Tom Croft, Louis Deacon, Toby Flood, Manu Tuilagi and Ben Youngs.

Flood made three appearances during the 2007 tournament in France, but the other Leicester Tigers players are all going to their first World Cup tournament.

Former Tigers flanker Lewis Moody will lead the side into the tournament where England face Argentina (September 10), Georgia (September 18), Romania (September 24) and Scotland (October 1) in the pool stages.

Johnson, World Cup-winning captain in 2003, said: “The composition of the squad is very important and we think we have the right mix. There is great sense of unity in this group and we are pleased with the depth across the squad.

“We have a number of leaders and experienced players and have named Lewis Moody as squad captain. We are confident he will play a pivotal role for us.”

England complete their build-up against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday before heading to New Zealand.
