Former London Wasps lock Skivington scored his first try for Tigers in the 48-6 victory over Leeds Carnegie in Round 4 and is now looking forward to Sunday’s trip to Saracens.
“It’s a massive game, with the two Premiership finalists from last year,” said Skivington. “It’s a tough one but everyone is looking forward to it.”
Tigers bounced back from defeat at Wasps in Round 3 to record an eight-try win over Leeds last weekend, and Skivington says it is just what the squad needed.
“The Wasps game was a big blow for us,” he said. “We worked really hard to get into a good position, we were very clinical in the first half, but in the second half we fell off a bit and made a few stupid mistakes and ended up losing a game that we could’ve taken five points from.
“Saying that, we took two points at Wasps and at the beginning of the year you would probably be pleased with that.
“It’s coming together, we’re building slowly.
“Against Leeds we held on to the ball better, which has been a bit of an issue, we did all the basics well and got the reward for it. We are a confident side and as long as we clear up a couple of the errors we will get the scores.”
Skivington was central to the action in the win over Leeds, in the set-piece and in the loose, though there was another moment he'd probably want to forget.
“Let’s start with the kick,” he says, “because that was embarrassing. I did actually know the referee was playing advantage, though I don’t think anybody believes me. It was a nice kick, but it just didn’t go the right way! Having said that, I’m sure Cockers will have a serious word with me about it.
“Getting the ball in hand in the loose is a part of my game that I think will come as I get more used to the guys around me. But you have to do the basics well first and then, if those little gaps come up and you’re in the right place, you can go for them.
“It was nice to get a try, but I probably won’t score an easier one than that. The lads carried and cleared really well and I just dropped over the ruck.”
