Work is under way to clear the covering of snow at Welford Road in readiness for Leicester Tigers' Aviva Premiership game with Newcastle Falcons today (3pm).

Frost sheets have been covering the pitch all week and protecting it from the two inches of snow which fell overnight.
Tigers groundstaff together with teams of stewards and volunteers are clearing the snow from the pitch and stands.

Charles Rayner, head of stadium operations, said: “We have a team of 50 volunteers working together with Tigers staff to clear the pitch.

“We also have a team that is clearing snow from the Holland & Barrett Terrace and the Clubhouse Stand.

“The sun is hitting the Caterpillar Stand and is melting the snow on that side of the ground while the external areas are being swept and gritted.”

Tickets for the match are available now from the Tigers ticket office. Phone 0844 856 1880, book online by clicking here or call in at Welford Road.

The Tigers Academy game against Northampton Academy at Oval Park has been called off.
