Lucky youngsters from Stafford RUFC enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience at the club’s Oval Park Training Ground watching the first-team train before taking part in a session led by Tigers head coach Matt O’Connor.
The Tigers head coach was joined by assistant coach Geordan Murphy and senior development coach Brett Deacon for an afternoon training session after watching the first-team put through their paces in the morning.
Stafford U12s were invited down thanks to the generosity of a parent of one of the team’s players Peter Worthington, who is a Tigers season ticket holder and 1880 member.
His was the winning bid at the club’s 125 Year Dinner auction last season.
As well as watching the first team in action, the youngsters had a tour of the Oval Park facilities before eating lunch with the players and having photos and autographs.
Pete said: “When we saw the list of auction prizes available, this one just stood out as a great opportunity to bring the team down and they have loved every minute of it.
“The club is in great shape and in the process of moving to new premises – we’ve got a thriving junior section, and I hope that the kids today will enjoy the experience.
A lot of the lads have taken part in the Tigers Rugby Camps and thoroughly enjoy them. It’s not every day you get to learn from Matt O’Connor and his team!”
Stafford U12 coach Tom Shrehorn, who joined along with parents of the team, added: “The kids have been so excited all day. Seeing the likes of Ben Youngs and George Ford up close as well as the intensity the team trains has been a real experience for our young players."
