Tait receives players' special merit award

Former Leicester Tigers full-back Mathew Tait has been presented with this year’s Special Merit Award by the Rugby Players’ Association.

England international Tait, who played in the 2007 Rugby world Cup Final on his way to 38 Test caps, made 143 appearances for Tigers after spells qwith Newcastle and Sale, and announced his retirement earlier this year.

Receiving his award at the RPA annual awards event at Twickenham this week, Tait said: “I am truly humbled and privileged to receive this award and would like to thank the RPA Players' Board for this incredible honour.

“I have been extremely lucky to have enjoyed a career at three great clubs, represented my country and made so many amazing memories which I can take with me into my retirement and my next chapter." 

Tigers team-mate Jonny May has been named England Men's Player of the Year by his international colleagues.
