Team efforts please coach Loffreda

Marcelo Loffreda got off to a winning start as Leicester Tigers head coach on Saturday and saluted the whole team's performance in the 39-0 victory over Edinburgh.

“I do not like to speak about individuals, I think everybody in the team did his work well,” said Loffreda as Tigers got their first win of the Heineken Cup campaign following the defeat by Leinster in Dublin a week earlier.

“We talked about our defence, being on the front foot and not waiting for the opposition, and we did that which was very important. We wanted to play the game in their half and we did it perfectly well.”

Edinburgh head coach Andy Robinson admitted he had feared a big performance from Saturday’s hosts.

“After everything that happened last week, we knew the backlash was coming,” the former England coach said. “Leicester had a simple gameplan and they played it really well. Fair play to them, that is how a great club responds to the disappointment of last week. In the second half we started to stand up and put some of our own game together.”

Tigers are second in Pool 6 with five points, while leaders Toulouse have nine following a 33-6 victory over Leinster on Sunday evening. The top two clash in back-to-back fixtures in December but, for now, those encounters must wait.

“The Toulouse matches are crucial but now the game we have to think about is Leeds in the Guinness Premiership next Saturday,” said Loffreda.
