On arrival in Lyon we will transfer by coach to the four-star Hilton Hotel, a journey of approximately 40 minutes. The hotel is situated on the banks of the River Rhone, opposite the Tete d'Or Park. Lyon's many attractions, from its Museum of Contemporary Art to superb shops, are just 2 minutes walk away.
Join us on Thursday night for welcome drinks in the bar before you explore Lyon's many fantastic cafes and restaurants. On Friday, enjoy the day at your leisure before joining us for supper before we head to the Stade Pierre Rajon for an 8pm kick-off. On Saturday we will be departing from the hotel at 1.45pm, leaving you free to spend the morning discovering France's second largest city.
Coinciding with our weekend is Lyon's "Fete des Lumieres", the festival of light. The official history of the festival dates back to 1851, when locals are reputed to have spontaneously displayed thousands of candles to mark a religious celebration.
Now the event has turned secular, the candles have been nudged aside and Lyon's power supply is stretched to the limit. For three nights, Lyon takes on a fairy tale atmosphere and this historic city is illuminated with thousands of brilliant, colourful, dynamic lights.
