Thacker delighted with first Tigers try

Charlie Thacker says it was a brilliant feeling to score his first try in Leicester Tigers colours.

Thacker scored the opening try of Saturday’s Anglo-Welsh Cup win against Gloucester Rugby.

The centre wriggled free as three Gloucester defenders converged to tackle him and scrambled over the line to dot down.

Thacker’s try and his all-round display helped him win the fans’ vote for their Spire Man of the Match.

In the first interactive man of the match vote on the club app, fans were asked to pick their stand-out performer, with Thacker receiving 32 per cent of the vote.

And afterwards he said: “Harry (Thacker) taught me that, to get back up and keep going. I wasn’t held though, so it was okay.

“It was a scramble, a bit if fight and I managed to get there. It was a great feeling.

He added: “We’re pleased with the win. There were a few squeaky bum moments in the game, especially with that late kick for Gloucester.

“We can do more in the game to win it and not leave it to chance. Thankfully they didn’t get the kick and we managed to get the win.”
