New recruit Guy Thompson is like a kid at Christmas time, counting down the days to a debut appearance at Welford Road as a Leicester Tigers player.
Speaking from the club’s Oval Park training base as the back-rower’s opening month of pre-season training with his new team-mates comes to a close, Thompson said: “It has been absolutely amazing so far. The boys are really welcoming, everyone has been around the whole club, and I've really enjoyed it.”
With just over a month until rugby returns to the home of the #TigersFamily for a pre-season fixture against London Irish, flanker Thompson cannot hide his excitement at the prospect of running out with the Leicester crowd behind him for a change.
“The crowd is always loud, the atmosphere is always fantastic," he said. "To call Welford Road home, I literally cannot wait.
“I am also so excited to be able to have a Tigers crowd behind me and not against me for once!
"It's nice receiving those positive messages from fans on social media and being welcomed into the Tigers Family so quickly. I'm really grateful and want to thank all of those supporters because they've made the move a lot easier for me. I can't wait to get out on to the pitch for Tigers and show them what I can do."
Thompson has been training alongside new recruits Gaston Cortes and Sam Aspland-Robinson ahead of the 2018/19 campaign as well as Will Spencer who also recently shared his “incredible pride" at now being a member of the Tigers.
