Leicester Tigers enjoyed a 100 per cent winning record in league and European competition at Welford Road this calendar year for only the third time.Tigers won all 13 Aviva Premiership and Champions Cup fixtures played at their world-famous stadium in 2015, starting with a 14-8 Aviva Premiership victory over Bath Rugby on January 4, a game in which Tom Youngs scored the only try and Owen Williams kicked four penalties.
The year finished with the 22-10 Boxing Day victory over Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership. Telusa Veainu, Peter Betham and Laurence Pearce scored the tries with Freddie Burns kicking the rest of the points.
It is only the third calendar year in which Tigers have won every Welford Road game in the league and in Europe.
The first time was in 1999, a year in which Leicester won the first of four consecutive league titles, when they won all 13 fixtures.
The second time was in 2001, the year of Tigers’ first European title, when they won all 15 fixtures in league and Europe played at Welford Road.
Tigers also won all eight league games at Welford Road in 1994, before European competition was launched in 1995.
They have been unbeaten at home in two other calendar years since the launch of the league and European competitions. In 1998, Tigers won 11 and drew two of their 13 fixtures while in 2009 they won 12 and drew one.
